YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO BE A DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEER

Take the reins of the “Iron Horse”!  “At the Throttle” is coming to the Oklahoma Railway Museum this spring.  The program is a unique opportunity for railfans to live their dream of running a diesel locomotive.

No previous locomotive experience is required. A qualified
engineer will be in the cab at all times.  Participants will enjoy a
half hour of operating the engine, including safety orientation.

Participants must be at least 18 years old with a valid
driver’s license.  Clothing appropriate to a working rail yard
should be worn at all times.  Gloves, long pants, long
sleeve shirts, and closed-toe shoes are required. Safety
glasses and ear protection are recommended. Participants
wishing to have their picture made should bring a
camera.

At Engineer’s discretion, one person 12 years of age and older may ride in the cab with the driver.

Release forms are required. Please print, sign, and bring with you.

A special “At the Throttle” is coming to the Oklahoma Railway Museum this year. The program is a unique chance for rail fans to live their dream of running a Diesel locomotive. This is a rare opportunity to operate the last ALCO Roadswitcher built, an ALCO C415 engine. BUGX 701, built for the Columbia & Cowlitz Railway of Washington State, is the last ALCO C415 built. After serving the for Columbia & Cowlitz, 701 would go on to serve the Port of Tillamook Bay and Mount Hood Railroads in the Pacific Northwest before settling in Burlington, IA in the late 90’s. 701 ran on the Burlington Junction Railway until it was purchased by a private individual and was moved to the Oklahoma Railway Museum in late 2022. 701 was ordered with a tall cab, that stands at just over 14’ 10” tall, with the overall height of the cab topping out at a whopping 16’ 5”. To put it in perspective, that’s 6” taller than an SD70ACe…

No previous locomotive experience is required. A qualified
engineer will be in the cab at all times.  Participants will enjoy a
half hour of operating the engine, including safety orientation.

Participants must be at least 18 years old with a valid
driver’s license.  Clothing appropriate to a working rail yard
should be worn at all times.  Gloves, long pants, long
sleeve shirts, and closed-toe shoes are required. Safety
glasses and ear protection are recommended. Participants
wishing to have their picture made should bring a
camera.
